VoicesofAfrica wins World Summit Award


  1. Voices of Africa Media Foundation
    The Voices of Africa (www.voicesofafrica.com), a training project targeting African reporters, has been declared one of the winners of the World Summit Award, in the category e-Inclusion and Participation. The news was announced by the World Summit Award officials, after a jury of 35 members from 35 countries have judged 560 interactive media projects.

    The World Summit Award is a global multimedia competition, emphasizing not so much technology but primarily quality and innovation with regard to the content and its contribution to the information society. The competition comprises eight categories, and a country can send but one project for each category. The awards will be handed over to the winners on 12 June 2009 in Monterrey, Mexico.

    Voices of Africa
    The Voices of Africa mobilere reporting project was launched in May 2007 by the Voices of Africa Media Foundation based in Haarlem, in The Netherlands  (www.voamf.org). The Foundation equips African reporter trainees with mobile telephones, offers them a training programme and financial support so to enable them to make video, photo and written reports about Africa and for online publication.

    Pim de Wit, initiator and director of the Voices of Africa Media Foundation: ‘it is highly stimulating for all our African reporters to hear that our project has earned global recognition’.

    This is an incredible news, to be there is more to come within the years ahaed of us. We need not to be complacent rather continue to do our best ,and with the support of our hard understanding management and hard working young reporters we shall always triump.
