We don’t have power

29 September 2006, by PowerNell. Okay, power is not restored. At least not on a regular basis. Thursday I did not have power. It was switched off at 06.00 and restored at 17.00, according to the new timetable, which was apparently announced last Monday. But today I had power from 12.00 onwards. In the local media people are complaining about the 'surpise power cuts". A resident of Sinza: "The whole of last night we did not have electricity around this area and there was no proper explanation as to why" (Source: The Express, September 28, 2006).
Funny comment
A funny comment was found on the opinion page of The Express. A 'concerned reader from Dar es Salaam" writes: '(...) In my area where I live, power is supposed to be cut from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. all days in the week. Yet on Saturdays and Sundays power can still be there until 8 in the mornings, something which I am truly grateful for. But how should I know when the power will be cut on weekend mornings? Is it ok to start boiling an egg, or will it only be half boiled before Tanesco decides that enough is enough, and switched off the electricity? If there is a schedule, let"s stick to it."
That sounds so familiar. How many times did I wait with my laundry until noon, to make sure that power would not disappear halfway the washing machine program? E-ver-y-time it was switched off during my laundry, leaving me with wet clothes soaked with washing powder.
