- Posted on Monday 19 April 2010 - 15:05Walter Wilson Nana, AfricaNews reporter in Buea, CameroonAbout four local players may join the foreign-based professionals of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon as they prepare for the upcoming three international friendly matches ahead of the World Cup in South Africa, according to head coach Paul Marie Le Guen.
He was speaking to journalists in Yaounde, at the weekend, after a five-day training camp with some 26 local players.
Le Guen did not release the identity of the four players, saying he was not obliged to make available that information immediately.
He said the objective of the evaluation session for the local players was met with some of them distinguishing themselves. “Two teams were constituted during the camping, and one of them showed superiority in technical quality,” Le Guen said.
However, he expressed regrets that two players were injured, one of them reported to be serious.
Concerning the positions in the national team that continue to pose problems, notably the attacking machinery, Le Guen said the team will rely on flexible players like Stephane Etoundi Mbia, the Cameroonian at French League 1 Club, Lille, to do the trick.
Following the FIFA calendar, Cameroon, like the rest of the 31 other World Cup qualifiers, have up to May 11 to submit a shortlist of 30 players. The national trainer will subsequently select his final World Cup squad from this shortlist.
