Vodacom injects US$75m in Zambia

The amount is to be invested in setting up a submarine optic fibre system in the southern African country. Vodacom CEO Wally Beelders said the optic fibre will expand Internet service provision across Africa.
He praised the Zambian government for allowing Vodacom to establish its firm in the country, through the acquisition of 100 percent shares in Africonnect.
Zambia’s Communications Deputy Minister, Mubika Mubika appealed to Vodacom to expand its Internet services to the country’s rural areas
The Managing Director of Africonnect, Mark Bennett, said his company was working on expanding Internet connectivity through the North South Corridor.
He said Zambia needed to change Internet infrastructure if it is to scale up service provision.
