Tunisia promotes use of ICT in public transport

  1. Tunisian transportation company (SNTRI), signed an agreement with the Center for Research in Telecommunications (CERT), setting up an intelligent transportation system.

Under the agreement, CERT is committed, to monitor the movement of SNTRI bus park via satellite and developing computer systems and communications for the benefit of SNTRI.

The project aims to develop technologies that pave the way for highly efficient unmanned public transport systems especially that the transport sector can form a duality with information technology and communication (ITC).

However, one of the most important aspects of the project, is to work out the best way to give the Intelligent Transport System (ITS), a global initiative aiming at enhancing different means of transport. The project aims also to build up an excellent track record in providing solutions for the public transport company.

The Tunisian government is among the first countries in Africa and in the Arab world which have begun to consider sustainable methods of transport and to have and to set up a system of intelligent transportation in order to better manage its fleet of buses as well as its Lorries.

About 90% of all future innovations within the automotive industry are expected to be based on developments in the field of electronics, of which 80% in turn will be based on intelligent embedded software.
