Britain congratulate new AU chair
Messages of well wishing and congratulations continue to pour in following Malawi's President Bingu wa Mutharika's recent election to the position of chairman of the African Union (AU). - In his letter to the Malawi leader early this week, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said United Kingdom (UK) will support AU during Malawi’s chairmanship.
Brown said his government was impressed with President Mutharika’s choice of priority areas to be tackled during his chairmanship. The Malawi leader reiterated at the AU summit soon after his election to the position that food security would be the key issue he would tackle in his one year term of office.

- By Promise Kamanga, Lilongwe, Malawi Prices of commodities are expected to go up following increment of fuel prices on the local market as announced by government through its Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) on February 12. The new prices however, come amidst fears that there could be another fuel shortage in the country. Malawi experienced fuel scarcity especially diesel in the months of November and December, 2009. In the two major cities of Blantyre and Lilongwe, minibuses plying on the local routes had already adjusted the fares.
