  1. VIBRANT MEDIA IN KENYA

    - Kenyan media could perhaps be the most liberal in the world. It is only in Kenya that every tribe has a radio station on it's name.Indeed we have so many radio and television stations that any unfolding story sinks to the bottom most part of every Kenyan.Take the example of the ongoing court cases at the Hague involving originally six Kenyans but now four.Every one of us in this country now understands impressively the operations of the international criminal court and we are thus not subject to ungodly manipulation by tribal chiefs and other cheap politicians who may want Kenyans to believe that the proceedings at the Hague are politically instigated. Our children too have not bee…

  2. society unfair to psychotic patients

    - Psychotic disorders are just like any other diseases and as such we needed to treat mad people like any other patients. In Kenya psychotic patients are viewed as a disgrace to the society and are often denied such basic rights as food, medical treatment, housing, clothing etc. This is wrong.Very wrong. The society must know that we are all potential psychotic patients and as such we must treat these people with the same respect we would expect should we find ourselves in the same condition.

  3. TB STILL A MENACE

    - As the whole world joined hands in the fight against TB on Wednesday march 24th,much remains to be done about the menace that tuberculosis is. TB is a bacterial disease that more often than not is transmitted through the air from the infected person to the rest of the population. The bacteria are best transmitted in enclosed environments and therefore those most susceptible to the disease are the people living in overclouded places, school children, users of public transport, those attendance and being admitted in public hospitals etc. Though TB is not very prevalent in the developed world as it is in the developing world,it still remains a challenge world over. In Africa,Asia Latin America…

  4. En Route Down south

    - With only 2 months left for the whole world to converge in South Africa for the world cup,Kenya has prepared her self for the big event. One may ask how events hundreds of Kilometers down south affect Kenya and Kenyans. The truth is that we have unrivaled flora and fauna here in Kenya, coupled with the hospitality of the great people of Kenya, the great mountains and deep valleys, the sunny beaches, our competent transport and communication network, the perfect boarding facilities and most of all, various altitudes from different parts of this country which favor training for the big event. Any body wishing to spend some time in Africa en-route to South Africa should give Kenya a trial. It…

  5. Entrepreneurship is the solution

    - African Economic development is,to say the least, very discouraging. There is no African country that can boast of any meaningful economic progress after colonization. However, this need not be the case.Africa can and should be the global food basket owing to vast arable land, favorable tropical weather, minimal pests and diseases, and most importantly a relatively youthful population. But even with all these factors compounded,we are still suffering in crippling poverty, one that some times is truly dignifying. What we need to know in this great continent is that unless we make a deliberate effort to 'rise and walk' we shall remain international beggars. We have the capacity but we…

  6. Trash to treasure

    - Environmental pollution is an issue of great concern world over.It comes in different forms raging from emission of toxic and really hazardous gases by heavy industries, pollution of rivers from through domestic, industrial and Agricultural effluent, street noise, domestic litter improperly disposed, etc. The pollutants whether gaseous, solid or liquid are a major source of misery to both human beings and grazing animals. But this not be the case. Solid waste especially papers are a real nuisance in our residential areas. We step on them all the day long and very few of us give a second thought on any possibility of recycling them. The papers, especially the nylon papers and plastic bottles can…

  7. A COUNTRY UNDER SIEGE

    - Kenya is a country under siege. We are truly living as though Kenya is just about to disappear from the surface of the earth or,to put it in the words of the Iranian's president in reference to Israel,we are living as though we are just about to be wiped from the world map.A great tragedy it is. In this country,we wake up,we we eat,we sleep and we always dream politics.Any first time visitor to this great land always thinks that we are going to hold our general elections next week.Crazy. We seem to have forgotten what happened a year a go.We fought and killed each other over dirty politics. We seem to learn no lessons at all.God forgive us. What I am urging my fellow country men is…

  8. Endless pain for Kenyans

    - Kenya is mourning.Kenyans are crying.Children have lost parents, the aged are burying the young,a generation is in danger of extinction.Just what is the matter in this great country? When the news came in that more than a hundred people had perished in an infernal near Nakuru, the whole country was deeply moved by the turn of events considering that it was barely a week since tens of people had perished in Nairobi through fire.'There is more than meets the eye in this misfortunes' people said. And true to their saying, these are horrible accidents caused by sheer human error. All Kenyan's have something unusual in common:Curiosity. Whenever there is a tire bust in the mi…

  9. Malt soft drinks rule Kenyan market

    - The Kenyan soft drink market is experiencing a huge evolution. It is no longer now about the traditional carbonated soft drinks. In Kenya today, the in things are the malt -soft drinks. Though the choice is still limited because only two companies are currently manufacturing the products, there seems to be a great acceptability especially among the Kenyan youthful population. Indeed, the demand for the products is so great that the two manufacturing companies, the giant Coca cola company and the East African Breweries, can not cop with the market demands. In one of the most popular pubs in Nakuru, customers are not allowed to purchase the soft non alcoholic beverages after 9.00pm for the fear…

  10. African medicine still potent

African culture has something that attracts both admirers and detractors. In one hand there are those who rubbish everything related to the traditions of Africa calling it barbaric and retrogressive. Astonishingly, the fiercest detractors of African arts and culture are the young 'educated' Africans. - Out of sheer contempt and misinformation, they think that anything that is not from the West is alien and that westernization is the same as civilization. This is a great tragedy and misconception. On the other hand, there are those who believe that in the African culture - arts and medicine - there lies a solution to the major problems affecting this continent and its people. Sar…

  11. Kenya: Youth fund is a success

All over Kenya innovative ideas are springing up. The previously thought to be of little economic importance youth are now proving their critics wrong. Going by the great success the Youth Fund has proven to be, other countries in Africa may just need to start their own. - In one village, I came across a Turkey farm, which has become a model farm to all farmers in the area and the surrounding schools. The farm - located in an area where cattle rearing - is the order of the day, has proven successful because the thieves won't touch these rather strange birds. Because the government requires that the youth be in a group to qualify for the fund, it has helped the youth in the tribal vol…

  12. Untapped gold in the bushes of kenya

    - Somethimg precious lies totally unutilised in the Keyan semi arid areas. The Aloe Vera plant,a highly valued and world -wide protected plant, grows naturally in the Kenyan bushes. The plant, highly valued in the world of dermatology and cosmetics,is of little use to the occupants of this places most of who are pastsolists. Astonishngly,in other parts of the world, the plant is highly protectet and earns farmers good money. with little gorvernment intervention, in form of having the plant grown for commercial purposes, the arid areas could suddenly be turnerd to a an economic hurb of this country. It's a pitty that the residents of these areas have continued to rely on food hand…

  13. The anti-age herb from East Africa

    - Driving across the vast east Africa region, one is not likely to miss huge fields live with green bushes of tea.The crop is grown all over the region and is indeed a major source of foreign currency. There are however numerous benefits of taking tea as a beverage. The plant has untold health benefits. Tea,alongside red wine, soy and all fresh fruit juices have been known to be very beneficial on human health. They contain substances known as flavonoids, which are anti-aging,anti-tumors,anti-allergies etc. Flavonoids consumption in tea, wine and fruit juices has also been known to be inversely related to mortality from coronary heart diseases, heart attacks etc. Flavonoids protect aga…

  14. Health evolution in Kenya

Kenyans have a reason to smile amidst hunger. There is some good news all over the place. It's great for all health conscious individuals who find themselves in the world of smoking without the full knowledge of what they are putting themselves into. - It is now official that all cigarettes packets must bear clear and visible inscriptions about the harmful effects of smoking, both to the individual smoker and to those exposed to the secondary smoke. Unlike before when the warning signs appeared in small hard to read and hidden inscriptions, currently the inscriptions are very visible and no matter how much one may wish to ignore them, it's very hard. What's more encourag…

  15. A coffin ride

    - Any time I am on the Kenyan roads, either boarding a public vehicle or on private means,I wonder whether we really care about our own lives, let alone those of our passengers or other road users. Kenyan roads are a real danger, and in the actual fact, have claimed more lives this year alone than probably HIV/Aids has done.Remember we are still in January. However,I never thought we were so inhuman and money minded until recently when I boarded a public vehicle on my way home from work.It was around 5.00 pm. As we left Nakuru town, the vehicle was full without excess passengers. The operators could not risk meeting a one no nonsense policeman who patrols the town on a motorbike.cheers. Ho…

  16. Lesson from Kenya to America

    - In the year 2002,Kenyans were rated as the most optimistic people in the world. We had just removed a government and a leader that was considered corrupt and dictator all over the world except in Somalia and Zimbabwe. This was change we could believe in. Like the Bush administration which astonishingly also enjoys a full support of two states namely Britain and Israel,Moi administration was indeed unpopular and it's exit was welcome with a sigh of relief in Kenya and the world and at large. However, our optimism was short lived.Sooner than later, our cherished leaders started failing us.the failure was terrible.Nobody believed that it would end in massacre. But it did.We missed Moi aga…

  17. Fixing hunger problem in Kenya

    - The current hunger problem that is facing Kenya can not be taken lightly by any person except our ever insensitive politicians who don't pay taxes. To get our self out of decades long hunger problem,Kenyans must stop relying on food hand out from the government and the catholic church, who despite providing generously at the time of need, fall short of making Kenyans self reliant on food matters. To begin with all those youths wasting time in the urban centers must get back home and seriously engage in agriculture and other productive economic activities. In Kenya an average farmer is a retiree on his early sixty. The elderly who makes less than 20?% of the whole population are expected…

  18. Cry my beloved country

No food for us. No food for the children. No food for the aged. No food for the sick. No food at all for ten million Kenyan tax payers. God forbid that this not be a fiction story from some God forsaken country. - No food in Kenya? Why, just why? As far as nature has it, the least that can be expected of any organism is that it can feed itself plus its children. But just how come that 10 million people in Kenya cannot feed themselves? Is something not seriously wrong in this country? What is more humiliating in this world than not having enough to eat? Let's face the facts now. Kenyan's are very hardworking people. If you doubt it, just place an advert on the media today a…

  19. Bravo Mr. President

    - For the first time,I am proud to be Kenyan. We,the good people of Kenya, have been subjected to too much disrespect and misinformation from our local media. Any Kenyan who cares to listen to our numerous FM stations knows what I am talking about. When we wake up in the morning,we are greeted by refined broadcasters discussing all kind of sexual mischief, caring less who their early morning audience is.They are very timely to hold hostage children as they prepare to go to school and commuters in the public transport as they go to work.In such an hour they will discuss different sex styles and expound on the topic for as much as an hour. If you find this irritating, you may choose vernacu…

  20. Kenya: Deadly flour for children

Children in Kenya are being fed on poison. This is happening despite the government's direction demanding that there should be a mark of quality by the regulatory body on all locally manufactured and imported goods. - The flours mostly meant for porridge which is Kenyan staple child food, are a concoction of different unrelated ingredients especially grains, pulses, nuts, dried fish, and chemical additives. The flour is on sale in every retail outlet, raging from small village and slum shops to the massive supermarkets in the cities. The product has worn the confidence of the mothers, a factor which has prompted more packers to arise, and with them more deadly mixtures. What the y…
