    Housing problems, health, education and sanitation are priority issues for the community of Alexandra, in Johannesburg. There exists no communication or a platform that gives communities the opportunity to speak or say their minds to the government about their needs. - To respond to that need, Lifeline, a Johannesburg-based organization, has launched a project that would allow locals to express their views. The project hopes to get the community to stand together, sit, talk and take action about their own issues.

  3. Jburg: Dancing attracting more street kids


    Street children in Alexandra, Johannesburg have been enjoying dancing course from the volunteers of the Ikusasa Lethu Day Care Centre, who hope to show those kids that there are other options in life than roaming in the street, or turning to drug and sex. - They have even formed a group, called the Special Stars Dance Group. The group accommodates all young people who want to dance and are passionate about dancing. Moreover, the group’s choreographer and the director himself are themselves youths. The group now is focusing on being the youngest and most empowering dance group and have a positive influence on other young people.

    The Ithute Primary in Alexandra North of Johannesburg, has taken in its hand the initiative to regulate circulation on the main road passing the school, to help children cross safely. - Many children are knocked by cars every morning before they can even reach school premises, many local taxis drive on the streets of Alexandra here in Selbourne street as many people use them to go to work, school and many more places, many children are killed by this taxis on the rush hour to deliver people to ranks and work and for the drivers to make their daily check in money for the owners of the taxi.
