Barclays Bank in Kenya pretax profits grew 5 percent this year to become the group's global best performer due to strict lending discipline, Barclays' Global Head of Retail and Corporate Banking Fritz Seegers disclosed. - Seegers said the bank is therefore planning to use its Kenyan operation as the business centre for Africa.
Kenya already provides a sizeable number of employees working in its various African operations from South Africa to Ghana, according to Seegers. He said the bank wants to grow the number towards 2000.

Africa should expect more Korean government and investors' engagement with its countries in terms of aid and trade, the president of the Korean Foundation, Yim Sung-joon has said. - He said providing Official Development Assistance (ODA) to less developed countries is an important part of South Korea’s foreign policy framework.
Sung-joon said that South Korea’s ODA has tripled in the last couple of years and it is keen on following the guidelines set by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), an organization of 30 high income industrialized countries governed under the principals of democracy and free market economy.
