- With much cry about another State Owned English Speaking University in the Country, the Government of Cameroon seem to be giving deaf ears to that. With the recent creation of the University of Maroua this academic year, the people of the North West Region of Cameroon have embarked on having their own state Owned University. The North West Region of Cameroon is one of the most highly scholarised Regions in the country. The absence of a state owned university remains an object of speculation. The no nonsense politically conscious people think that their region is being marginalized because they vomited the Biya regime since 1990 and are not willing to "repent".…Cameroon: ELECAM WHAT WAY FORWARD?
- It is usually said that there are several types of bad scientists, including those that provide the right answers to the wrong question and those that provide the wrong answers to the right question. Much of the debate that followed the appointment of members of the Board of ELECAM has identified many such scientists Section 8 (2) of law N°2006/011 of 29 December 2006 creating Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) states that: "Members of the Electoral Board shall be designated from the midst of independent personalities of Cameroonian nationality, reputed for their stature, moral uprightness, intellectual honesty, patriotism, neutrality and impartiality" . - TRADERS COMPLAIN ABOUT CEMAC COINS It is alarming and worth noting that the New CEMAC bank notes and coins that went into circulation early last year, are now being rejected by some local traders in the community. The coins are FCFA 1,2,5,10 and 25 respectively. The people grossly affected with this problem are the local traders who sell Petty items in the markets or local shops around the community. On the reason why the coins are refused, some traders say they easily get missing due to their small in size nature. Looking at the former coins that circulated for over 10 years with no complain, some traders say they still prefer it because it last for long and when wel…SHORT COMINGS OF BIYA'S LAW ON REGIONS
- SHORT COMINGS OF BIYA'S LAW ON REGIONS President Paul Biya, of the Republic of Cameroon signed a presidential decree No. 2008/376 recently transforming the country’s ten Provinces into Regions. But for the districts which have been scrapped the decree states that Cameroon is made up of 10 regions, 58 Divisions and over 300 Sub-divisions with Governors and Senior Divisional Officers all appointed by the President of the Republic to head these administrative units just like in the past. It should be noted here that president Biya, promulgated the law on Regions (Law No. 2004/19 of 22 July 2004) in 2004, making most Cameroonians to be optimistic that they would be spared t…MEAT SCARCITY IN CAMEROON RESULTING TO SKY ROCKETING PRICES
- MEAT SCARCITY IN CAMEROON RESULTING TO SKY ROCKETING PRICES Cameroonians may have munched beef, mutton, pork and chicken for the festive season unaware of the prices producers receive in the world market place, far away from Muea, Deido, Ndop and Mokolo. This is because most of the producers who supply Cameroon’s local markets are weakly chained to the global market, relying on simple extensive production systems. So, what dictates the prices they charge rests largely on their local cost of production and consumers' good judgment to bargain or willingness to accept the prices offered by meat suppliers. However, for export oriented large-scale modern producers in Camer…CHRISTOPHER TAMBE TIKU; CAMEROON'S NEXT PRESIDENT?
