- Nairobi, March 13 2009 Kenyan Chief of General Staff Gen Joseph Kianga has said that the Kenyan military will not be involved in the wrangles between Kenya and Uganda over the disputed Migingo Island in Lake Victoria. The one-acre island has been at the centre of controversy in the past few weeks with both Kenya and Uganda claiming its ownership. The island has for a long time been inhabited by Kenyan fishermen and even the currency used there is the Kenyan shilling. Surrounded by rich fishing grounds, the island has attracted a horde of fishermen and traders from both Kenya and Uganda, who provide essential services.
