UGANDA: President vows to deal with opposition
The President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, has vowed to deal with Besigye if he does not stop what he called idiotic and nonsensical demonstrations in Kampala. Museveni said Besigye has no more plans to oust him describing their move as bankruptcy of the opposition. - In a question and answer session with journalists at his home in Rwakitura, the President wondered how Besigye’s demonstration will bring down inflation.
He noted that the opposition can only scare away investors to the country due to the instability and stop farmers from transporting their goods to Kampala thus the price increase in food and fuel prices.

Uganda's Opposition leader, Kizza Besigye, was arrested Monday shortly after he stepped out of his home for the Walk to work protest. Dressed in his trademark Blue cap, a pair of Khaki trousers, a Kitenge loose fitting shirt and black sneakers, Besigye was quickly rounded up by police and bundled up onto a police pickup truck and taken to Kasangati Police station. - This is the second time the leader of the Forum for Democratic Change leader FDC has been arrested.
Last week, Besigye was arrested in Kajjansi about five Kilometres from the capital city when he launched the ‘Walk to Work’ demonstration.

Uganda Peoples Defence Forces in conjunction with police and other Security agencies are patrolling all corners of Kampala, the capital city of Uganda to disperse demonstrators. Passengers and pedestrians are being checked wherever they move to ensure that they don't carry explosives to bomb the city. - Much deployment is in markets, slums, bars, Old and New Taxi parks, night clubs, and at the home of people security believes they engage too much in demonstrations.
Security suspects that Ugandans angered by the recent presidential, local council and parliamentary elections could use Monday’s mayoral elections to stage anti government demonstration.

The LRA rebels have intensified its attack in the Democratic Republic of Congo killing dozens of civilians, the Bishop of Dungu Catholic dioceses in the North eastern Congo has said. Bishop Richard Domba said the rebels are raiding villages, burning schools and crops in the fields, abducting children and ambushing vehicles in Congo. - He said that LRA were ousted away from Uganda and the neighbouring borders of Uganda were beginning to live in peace but it seems that there could be no peace.
He said that even the Congolese were living in peace because there were no attacks on civilian population following the joints operations by the UPDF and the Congolese army in September 2008.
The…Ugandan Police to monitor social media networks
The Uganda police are to monitor social media networks like blogs, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. Asan Kasingye, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, in Kampala Central Police station believes the social media could be abused to foment violence or stir up unrest around the elections. - He said that it is possible that hate messages and inflammatory statements could be exchanged on Facebook and Twitter and so the police are monitoring them to guard against riots.
Kasingye claims that during the 2009 Buganda riots, some social media were used to stir up the population and cause widespread unrest.
Kasingye doesn’t explain the extent of the monitoring or how it will guard ag…Uganda: Officials set to fight yellow fever
