Kenya’s 800m record holder David Rudisha was Sunday named this year’s World Athlete of the Year.
The 21 year old Rudisha’s 800m title eleven times this season saw him as favorite for world’s most prestigious track and cash reward of $100,000.
At a colorful annual World Athletics Gala dinner held at Fairmont Hotel in Monte Carlo, Monaco, the athlete and Croatian high jumper Blanca Vlasic were crowned in a colorful ceremony.
Rudisha becomes the first Kenyan to get such an award since its introduction in 1988.
