  1. OPINION: Malawi and Western African agenda

When you keep on begging you are likely to end up abused as well as taken advantage of. Malawi recently devalued its currency, the Kwacha. This devaluation was a key demand by the IMF in order for the Malawian government to receive support from the Western backed IMF. The Malawian government of course calls this a necessary evil in order for the country to remain viable. - Malawi is a country with nothing; its main export is tobacco. 36% of government revenues come from aid agencies and western donors; it literally is a country that would collapse without Western aide. Yet Joyce Banda the president refuses like all her other predecessors to take the necessary steps to free Malawi from this b…

  2. OPINION: Democracy, freedom and Mali

The coup in Mali on March 21 2012 has reversed 21 years of democracy. When we read an article by Martin Vogl and Rukmini Callimachi in the English Guardian news paper, they say, "Mali, once a model democracy, was plunged into crisis on 21 March when a mutiny erupted at the Kati military camp, six miles from the presidential palace." - Many Western newspapers lament the once model democracy of Mali, and economic aide has been cut off, quoting Canadian foreign minister John Baird, “Canada utterly condemns this attack on democracy by a faction of Mali's military”. The 21 years of democracy statistically have done no better or worse for Mali, it is still one of the …

  3. OPINION: Sometimes Africa is its own worst enemy

Though in many regards Africa's problems are a direct result of colonialism, a direct result of Western white interference, but many times, Africa behaves as its own worst enemy. It is the holiday season, yet millions of Africans will not enjoy because of wars, famines, and disordered countries. - Yet Africa’s problem is so easy to solve, it is a matter of changing the mindset, a culture of freedom. Cultures are meant to be dynamic to deal with the realities of the moment, what worked 200 years ago will not necessary work, if it is not adapted to the situation of the moment. The days of strong man have gone; the days of colonial institutions should have passed with colonialism…

  4. OPINION: Gaddafi's folly, a lesson for Africa

Gaddafi's Libya is under intense pressure from the Western white world, that there can be no doubt, but most of the fault for this pressure comes from Gaddafi's folly when he took power 1969. Gaddafi's folly is not his alone, it is a general African folly, those bombs falling on Tripoli are a direct result of African leaders grandstanding on not ever been practical, unpractical from Nkrumah to Mandela, all the leaders were careless in their desire in believing that freedom has arrived in Africa and everybody can get along as if the whites never colonized and brutalized Africa. - Taking power in 1969 Gaddafi rightfully put himself in the center for African liberation, helping i…

  5. OPINION: Africa underdeveloped not overpopulated

Once again there is the debate being discussed about the need to reduce the African population, a debate that has been there since the beginning of colonialism. Why would one suggest that there are too many blacks as the recent program on BBC radio suggested appropriately entitled "Should Africans have fewer babies?" - One starts of life innocent and then see the reality with time, Africans place according to a doctrine that suggests there are too many blacks is to be thought for by whites, with whites saying give us resources. The question of too many blacks does not bother China, India, Japan, Vietnam, or Brazil for instance, it bothers the western intellectuall, a question d…

  6. Thoughts on the KOF Globalization Index

The KOF Swiss Economic Institute recently released the KOF Index of Globalization for 2011. The Index is as what its name implies, it measures or rather it attempts to measure the degree of globalization for 186 countries. Globalization being the degree of integration an economy has with the rest of the world. - The results often do not go with normal perceived notion of who the globalized societies are. For example, though the USA is the largest importer of goods from around the world, its globalization ranking over all is 27, for economic globalization it comes 50th. This is because of the huge internal market the USA has. Whilst Switzerland on the other hand has a large external market re…

  7. Maintain the brotherhood after revolution

North Africa is full of revolutionary zeal at the moment, united as brothers and sisters against oppressors. Southern Sudan has just broken away from the rest of Sudan, the feeling of brotherhood was strong as they fought the North. In the 60's, 70's and 80's Africa fought hard to get rid of colonialism, there was a great brotherhood as they fought the common enemy. - More often, after the revolution this spirit of brotherhood disappears, and societies become marred in corruption, theft, and generally a type of mafia rules grips hold of a society. The spirit of brotherhood must continue after the revolution, people must still care about each other after the old order is destro…

  8. Give mineral rights to the people

In a free Africa, the mineral rights will belong to the people rather than to the government. The government is not the people, even in circumstances were people elect a government, the government is there to govern the people, hence the word government. Africa's resources, now, long after imperialistic forces were defeated and rightly kicked out of Africa, the resources of the continent should be given to the people. - Anti imperialistic and anti colonial forces in Africa should have had the concept of freedom in mind when they fought and took on the imperialistic forces. Instead, these anti colonial forces only had one thing in mind, to replace the colonisers as the beneficiaries of t…

  9. Western trade chicanery affects Africa

Who has ever seen a chocolate bar in the West with the words manufactured or processed in Ghana yet Ghana produces so much chocolate, it is time Africa looked at this situation with mature eyes and with a heart towards the African people. A significant agricultural agreement between Africa and the West has not been reached though being discussed for around 60 years now. - Though we constantly hear a barrage of words and support for free trade and the such, wikileaks however have proved what a diplomat says is usually just hoodwink, there is no support for African people. There are many reasons for this lack of progress in agricultural reforms in the West to accept processed agricultural …

  13. Africa: Don't fear what makes the grass green

The pirate situation around the horn of Africa is getting worse, pirates are robbing ships carrying goods, and wealth that they do not have they have decided to take it by force. Ivory Coast is going around in circles; Zimbabwe is filled with hate and boiling. Every Nigerian outside Nigeria is proud to be Nigerian, Haiti is a hell on earth, and Ethiopia never went far from the days off Mengistu. - Tanzania is a model of ethnic tolerance and stability with a GDP per capita of US$1 400, it is less than that of Ivory Coast, a country clearly that has no ethnic tolerance. All these thoughts would be disheartening, why the mess? It is time to be honest with ourselves and accept a thing is a th…
