Africa gears up for digital broadcasting
- MIGRATION from traditional analogue to digital broadcasting, which is expected to deliver much needed frequency spectrum, is rapidly taking place across Africa and helping the continent overcome its historical and geographical limitations, according to MultiChoice Africa Regulatory Affairs Head Mgqibebo Gasela. Briefing journalists from Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe during a workshop on digital terrestrial television systems and standards in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Friday, Gasela said all countries were mandated to use the digital technology of terrestrial broadcasting systems by 2015. - SINCE the collapse of the former East African Community (EAC) in 1977, the Government of Tanzania has proved that it has failed its duty to do justice to ex-EAC employees as far as their terminal benefits are concerned. Apparently, the written agreement was that they should be paid Sh288 billion (about US$334.08 million) after Sh117 billion (about US$135.7 million) was paid to them out of the total sum of Sh404 billion (about US$468.6 million).
