Tanzania: Orphans receive goats in north
- Posted on Thursday 15 July 2010 - 21:09Mugini Jacob, VoicesofAfrica mobile reporter in the Mara region, TanzaniaSave Children of Tanzanian (SACHITA) has donated over 629 goats to about 500 families taking care of children living in difficult conditions in Rorya and Tarime Districts of Mara Region.Loading video...Majority of the children benefited from the donation are those whose parents have died of HIV/AIDS.
Dick Adriano, one of the orphans benefited from the support says: I am very happy to get this goat. It will help me to continue with my studies.
According SACHITA Programme Officer Ms Contilda Magweti close to 2700 most vulnerable children will benefit from donation.
‘Aim is to improve household income of these families so that they can be able take care of the children and ensure that they are growing well’, Ms Conltilda says.
The programme is supported USAID through Pact Tanzania, according to the official.
SACHITA is a local NGO that have been undertaking various programmes meant to improve the living conditions of orphans in the recent years.
The number of orphans is reported to have at an alarming rate in many parts of the Tanzanian due with HIV/AID cited to be the major contributing factor.
