Tanzania: HIV services extended to villages

    Majority of rural population in Tanzania have now access to health services following the on-going efforts by government to have a dispensary in every village.The dispensaries are mainly providing reproductive child health services and Volunteering Counseling and Testing on HIV Virus among pregnant women.

    ‘We are now getting good health services and we are being counselled to know our health status by testing HIV virus’, Benina Suguti, one woman patient at Nyantira village dispensary said.

    Nyantira is one of the dispensaries that serve between 30 and 50 patients on daily basis, according to it's clinical officer Stephen Raphael.

    ‘The services that we provide reproductive child health, Volunteering Counseling on HIV testing as well preventing mother to child infection among other things’, the clinical officer says.

    He however cited shortage of water and medical personnel as the major problem facing the dispensary.
