Tanzania: Coffee is money and sweet

    The campaign on local coffee consumption has dominated in this year's coffee farmer's day that was marked in the Tanzania Tarime District on Friday this week

    Many farmers gathered at interior remote village of Nyantira to celebrate the occasion that was coloured by various traditional dance groups.

    ‘This coffee is very sweat and it is out time to enjoy today. We cultivating coffee by using hands and even extension officers are now days visiting us’, says Joseph Momanyi.


    The occasion was organized by the Tanzania Coffee Research Institute (TaCRI) as part of it's on -going programme to revive coffee industry many rural villages of Tarime .

    Mara Zone's TaCRI programme Manager Ms Sheila Mdemu described the occasion as importance as far as development of coffee farming is concern in the area.

    The theme's of this years occasion was ‘wake up, coffee is money’.


    TaCRI strives to improve coffee industry in all coffee growing zones of the East African country.

    Coffee reminds to be one of the Tanzanians' major sources of foreign currency.
