The use of solar cooking facilities will reduce use of charcoal and firewood which are major sources of energy in the region, according to the NGO's training officer Mr Christopher Gamba.

‘ We need to cut down the use of charcoal and firewood in order to conserve environment in our region’, says Mr Gamba.

According to him around 2600 women have already undergone an intensive training on solar cooking in some remote villages of Rorya and Musoma districts under the programme.

Solar cooking is a new technology in rural Tanzania where almost 100 per cent of people use firewood and charcoal as their major sources of energy.
