Scepticism ahead of Raila-Kibaki meeting
- Posted on Tuesday 29 January 2008 - 17:18Munene Kilongi, Nairobi, Kenya[MOBILE VIDEO] The general public is sceptic as to the outcome of the second meeting between president Mwai Kibaki and opposition leader Raila Odinga who both claim electoral victory.Loading video...The feud resulted in the killing of over 1,000 people and pushed hundreds of thousands into camps. Former UN General Kofi Annan is bringing the two leaders together after a bloody weekend that saw 15 people burn alive in Naivasha. The meeting also comes hours after an ODM MP was assassinated in Nairobi.
Kenyans’ scepticism is explained by the fact that last week, the two leaders shook hand and expressed their solemn commitment to peace. Yet, confrontations resumed only hours after the historic handshake.
“They are hypocritical and dishonest”, say one Nairobi inhabitants. “What will they gain to be in power when people are dying?”, says another, adding bitterly that “God will deal with them”.
