Nairobi: HIV-affected exchange on their issues
- Posted on Sunday 9 May 2010 - 14:25Beryl Omunya, VoicesofAfrica mobile reporter in Nairobi, KenyaWe started as 10 women who are infected with HIV and we were meeting outside my house to talk about us and encourage one another, says Pamela the founder of Kibera HIV/AIDS Support Initiative Programme (KHASIP).Loading video...The group's main aim was to serve as post counseling center to help women who have tested HIV positive both psychologically and economically. when meeting they normally talk about treatment literacy and living their lives positively.
They have as well initiated income-generating activities and proceedings from these activities are places in the group's loans and savings scheme. Four years later since the group started these women can now boast of their ability to overcome stigma in the society , being self reliant and now training and helping others who are of the same status in the community.
