  1. Africa: when the guns go silent


    - Armed violence remains of the greatest impediment of the economic, political and social development of Africa. According to the recently released Africa Losing Billions to Conflict Report, between 1990 and 2005, 23 of the 53 African countries were in conflict. These countries, it is estimated have lost a whopping $284 billion through war, civil war and insurgencies. Eritrea’s 3 years of conflict resulted to a loss of 11% of its GDP, DRC’s 10 years of conflict, 29% of its GDP and Burundi’s 13 years of conflict, 37% of its GDP.
