Kibera Community Youth Programme
- Posted on Tuesday 19 December 2006 - 14:32Kibera Community Youth Programme (KCYP) is a community based youth initiative founded in 2002 by and for young people living in the urban slums of Kibera, one of the largest slums in Sub-Saharan Africa with an approximate population of one million people. The organization is a self-help initiative addressing youth problems through multisectoral approaches with an aim of empowering the disadvantaged youth to have a stake in the future. KCYP is involved in provision of life skills, entrepreneurship skills, and community service activities, income projects e.g. assembling of small solar panels, beadwork making, acting and community visit tours. These are undertaken through four core programs; youth development and empowerment, reproductive health & HIV/AIDS, Arts for Development & Social Change and Environment & Sanitation program.
