MEC for sports, Arts and culture Mr Lebohang Maile in his statement said: ‘We will continue with our engagements with the relevant stakeholders as part of the objective of competitive sport. We have engaged with the premier soccer league through the Chairman Dr Irvin Khoza and have since agreed that there is a need for us to explore mechanisms for increasing the levels of attendance at PSL Games’, said Maile.

In freedom Park the existing sports complex is earmarked for a reservoir of which the talent that needs to be natured from the sports complex, it seems it going to be stored in that reservoir instead of being unearthed.

South Africa depends on Grassroots development to feed the big teams in our domestic league to be competitive worldwide, therefore young boys and girls need to be given that opportunity to showcase their talent through sports.

The likes of AndileJali of Orlando Pirates started at the Copa coca cola cup tournament at schools. This shows that Schools and community members need to jell well together to promote grassroots development. Sports is the important mechanism for promoting social stability, creating and fostering identity and deepening democracy. Sports has been the key tool to avilliate the alcohol and drug use at a young age.

Private sectors and government should join forces and spearhead sports development in townships to prevent Tavern owners and Drug dealers of becoming the next sports in South Africa.
