Jburg: Focus on children on Rights Day
- Posted on Tuesday 29 March 2011 - 11:15Anthony Mmatli, voicesofAfrica mobile reporter in Johannesburg, South AfricaWhat was a better way to celebrate Human Rights day than giving to those who cannot provide for themselves? Human rights day in South Africa, is a day when we remember and celebrate the freedom of all South Africans.Loading video...Unfortunately not all South African can practice all their rights because of poverty and unemployment.
Human Rights are that every person has a right to basic food, and clothing. Many families are faced with challenges of HIV, poverty and unemployment, as part of giving back, Alex Fm, in partnership with Thuthukani, Gift of the Givers Foundation and Pologolo Productions are helping the community celebrate and practice this right.
Over 1500 people came to the event and 40% of those being children, they were pampered with food, music, given clothes, food parcels and most of all were given their freedom to essential food and clothing.
Many of the beneficiaries were those affected by HIV, orphans and vulnerable children, elderly, disabled and the unemployed.
Many children and families were given food and some of the organization, like Thuthukani, pledged to help one of the grandmothers who has 22 children with a top up R500 every month for groceries, guaranteed children are not going to go to school hungry and without clean clothes.
This goes out to all the families that are affected and hope this goes well goes well for them and that children are taken care of...
