Signs just outside of town welcome visitors with an encouraging message from the Makana Municipality: Grahamstown is striving to be the Eastern Cape's cleanest province.

Anyway, is there any competition? Try and picture some other town in this province: Butterworth, Umtata, Peddie, King Williams Town, Paterson, Alice, PE, Idutywa...is there really a challenge Makana Municipality?
