Ghana: President visits Stars Training
- Posted on Friday 12 June 2009 - 20:35The President of Ghana, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills has paid a surprise visit to the training pitch of the Senior National Team the Black Stars to motivate then to victory.
The President visited the team's training base at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra on Friday and urged them not only to qualify for the 2010 World Cup but go all the way.
According to him the Presidency and the entire nation are with them “morning, day and night” and would do everything humanely possible to ensure their qualification to the World Cup.
The former sportsman now President charged the Black Stars not to limit their ambitions to just qualification. “I know the national team will not be mere participants at the World Cup but contenders to win the coveted trophy for the first time in Africa”.
The President congratulated them for defeating Eagles of Mali in their own den in a pulsating 2-0. ”Thank you very much for doing us proud in Bamako. Now we hope you can,”
“All of you are politicians now because you affect the mood of the nation positively. You have to help me win a bet I had with a Brazil minister that Ghana and Brazil will meet in the Final of the World Cup Final and Ghana will win.”
The Black Stars of Ghana lead the 2010 World Cup qualifying group D with six points, three ahead of second placed Benin.
