FIFA will hold a hearing into alleged attacks by Egyptian fans on the visiting Algeria team before a World Cup qualifier in Cairo, the capital of Egypt on 15 April. FIFA said that its disciplinary panel will hear the case at its headquarters in Zurich.

FIFA's disciplinary code makes host nations responsible for the safety of their opponent's travelling party.

Associations failing that duty can be fined and, in serious cases, ordered to play international matches in an empty stadium or neutral country.

Algeria players and officials said they were showered with broken glasses when Egypt fans hurled rocks at their team bus two days before the match last November.

Egypt won the game to force a playoff in Sudan, which Algeria won 1-0 to reach the finals in South Africa.
