Mwamba was charged by police at Woodlands police station for allegedly authoring contemptuous articles and being the publisher of the Zambia Watchdog.

Mwamba denied the charges but police said they would detain him until November 29, when he will appear in court.

His lawyer John Sangwa argued that the court order required the police to take the suspects before the court and not to detain them.

Mwamba is a civil servant and journalist by profession. He is attached to the office of former president Chiluba as press aide.

Last week, a Supreme Court Judge, Gregory Phiri issued an order directing the entitre Zambia security apparatus to arrest authors, sources and editors of the Zambia Watchdog.

By 11: 30 local time on Wednesday Mwamba was still at the police station with his lawyers arguing with the police.
