Eto'o, Drogba for GOLDEN FOOT Award
- Posted on Monday 11 July 2011 - 10:22Walter Wilson Nana, AfricaNews reporter in Duala, CameroonTwo fleet-footed African football players; Samuel Eto'o of Cameroon, who trades his football career with Italian giants, Inter Milan and Didier Drogba, the Ivorian and striker for English Premier League side Chelsea, have been nominated for the prestigious and internationally recognized football award, GOLDEN FOOT.
According to the French radio station, Radio Monte Carlo, the 2011 edition of GOLDEN FOOT will once more hold in the French resort city of Monaco. The international prize is given every year to the greatest players in the history of football.
Patronised by Prince Albert II of Monaco, the GOLDEN FOOT has the endorsement of the World Champions Club and Tourism Office of Monaco.
Other international football players vying for the award alongside Eto'o and Drogba include; David Beckham (England), Gianluigi Buffon (Italy), Iker Casillas (Spain), Ryan Giggs (Wales), Carles Puyol (Spain), Raúl González Blanco (Spain), Xavi Hernández (Spain), Javier Zanetti (Argentina).
The aforementioned names have been chosen by the GOLDEN FOOT jury, composed of 58 journalists representing sports media all over the world. The winner will be chosen by football fans, who will decide the star that leaves his footprints on THE CHAMPIONS PROMENADE, football “Hall of Fame”.
Football enthusiasts are expected to vote for their star via the website www.goldenfoot.com until October 7 and the deadline is 12.00 GMT (Monte Carlo time). The award will be hosted on October 10 in Monte Carlo.
