DRC: SADC discuss post economic crisis
- Posted on Tuesday 23 February 2010 - 08:30Sanday Chongo Kabange AfricaNews reporter in Lusaka, ZambiaThe brunt of the global economic crisis in southern Africa is expected to take centre stage as the region's ministers meet in the DRC this week. The two-day SADC council meeting which starts on Thursday this week will look at developmental issues affecting the region and spill-over effects on the rest of the continent.
Other matters expected to be under discussion include the political situation in the region, food security situation, the establishment of the Centre for Co-ordination of Agricultural Research and Development and the Zambezi Watercourse Commission.
SADC, as one of the regional economic communities on the continent, is regarded as a building block in the consolidation of the African agenda and wider continental integration.
Foreign Affairs in Lusaka said they would issue a detailed statement once the agenda of the meeting was availed to them.
