Crazy but enjoyable days
- Posted on Friday 31 August 2007 - 16:39It has been crazy these last couple of weeks. First of all there is the Digital Citizen Indaba that's taking place next week (so soon!) on the 8th and 9th of September.
The tiny team has been trying to organise speakers, their flights and accomodation needs, hand out scholarships, buy t-shirts and lanyards, make a printed programme, organise catering and venues, invite delegates and what not.
Not my usual cup of tea but organising has never been that difficult for me. Although this is different to what I've done before it is all working out nicely. It would have been impossible without e-mail, Facebook and the Internet in general but a la: we've got a good-looking programme.
Besides the DCI I made an enormous step forward with my thesis (see previous logs for more or check out my website). I finished a first draft of the Findings chapter!
At first I was afraid my findings might be boring but heck no! Loads of interesting and usable observations, quotes and analyses make the chapter an interesting read. So far I have found both inhibiting and enabling factors and attitudes towards the convergence process. I'll give you more later, once everything is finalised.
If you are interested in my thesis about Newsroom Convergence you can always e-mail me.
I'm now writing the final chapter and I really can't wait to finish. There is a bit of deadline pressure on me since I just bought myself a plane ticket back to the Netherlands!
I'm leaving South Africa in the last week of November. I haven't been home in a year and a half; way too long. At home I'll try to set up my own company as a freelance journalist, educator, consultant, and I'll set up projects and workshops about new media and converged newsrooms.
I'll hopefully keep myself busy teaching and writing. But hey, I can't stay out of Africa too long! I'll be back here at the end of February. I really can't just leave, not after all these years.
And if anyone can offer me journalistic work from March to June anywhere in South Africa (or wants to fly me out and pay for it) please let me know!
My next blog will, obviously, cover the Digital Citizen Indaba in detail. In the meantime you can follow us online.
