Cameroon gets new soccer coach

    Paul Le Guen has been appointed as the new coach of the Cameroon national soccer team, the Indomitable Lions. The country's Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Michel Zoah, endorsed Guen on Wednesday. His decision has come to put a stop to the recent speculations in the media over who succeeds Pfister.

    The 44-year-old Le Guen will arrive in Yaounde, Cameroon on Saturday, July 25 to officially put pen on paper in a tripartite agreement, which will involve the Ministry of Sports & Physical Education, Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, and the recruited coach.

    The new coach is expected to sign a six-month contract with Cameroon’s Ministry of Sports. This contract will last up to January 2010 but will be open for extension if he delivers good results with the Lions.

    After a stint at Olympiques Lyonnais in France, Glasgow Rangers in Scotland and Paris Saint Germain, PSG, in France, Le Guen is bouncing back, this time in the African continent, to begin his first adventure with a national squad.

    As has been the case with his aforementioned three assignments, Le Guen, will be coming along with his chosen assistant, Yves Colleu and a Physio-therapist.

    Now the coach of the Cameroon national team, Le Guen will begin his sojourn with the Lions with an international friendly programmed for Vienna, Austria come August 12.

    The Lions will be taking on their Austrian counterpart as a warm up to their crucial match against the Azingo Nationale of Gabon.

    Gabon currently top Group A of the on-going joint African Cup of Nations and World Cup 2010 eliminatory with six points, while Cameroon is tailing the group with a point.

    The Cameroonian team is expected to win against Gabon in Libreville, come September 5 if they expect to keep their World Cup 2010 dreams alive.
