Cameroon commerorates Nelson Mandela Day

    In Cameroon, like in South Africa and the US of A, the Nelson Mandela Day July 18, was commemorated for the second time after the first edition in 2008. A group of scholars and pan-africanists, under the platform christened Mandela Forum organised activities to celebrate the 91st birthday of the African statesman, Madiba Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.

    The setting was Buea, the capital of the Southwest Region of Cameroon. In the presence of the South African High Commissioner to Cameroon and Ambassador to Chad and Central Africa Republic, H.E Martha N. Tsheole, the plethora of activities included; a workshop for youths; aged 18- 25, who took time to discuss the vision and values of Nelson Mandela, with focus on African Renaissance Paradigm.

    The South African Diplomat did have a series of panel discussions on private and public radio stations in the Southwest Region, where she shared with journalists issues on the history of South African struggle for freedom and independence, culture, democracy, African unity, development in Africa, conflicts, food crisis, Ubuntu, Imbizo in Africa, African Unity, Global Politics, South Africa's relationship with Cameroon and South Africa's preparedness for World Cup 2010.

    There were also visits to some local health centres, where some gifts were donated to some women who had put to birth and to the staff of the health centres. A photo exhibition showing the life and struggle of Nelson Mandela and a public concert closed the day's activities.
