Cameroon: Eto’o named captain of Lions

    A new era has dawned for the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon as Samuel Fils Eto'o, who trades his football know-how at the Italian Calcio League, with Inter Milan, was designated captain of the Cameroon national football squad.

    It is a decision of the newly recruited trainer of the Lions, French man, Paul Le Guen. Eto’o takes the captain ban from Rigobert Song Bahanack, who has played that strategic role for the Lions for 10 years.

    Le Guen’s option for Eto’o is coming on the heels of his first official outing with the Lions as head coach. The French football technician will be fielding his first team as Lion’s trainer in the Wednesday, August 12 international friendly against the Austrian national football team. The match will be played at the Enhappels Stadium in Vienna, Austria.

    Le Guen’s maiden team will include; Eto’o, Somen ŕ Tchoyi and Achille Kwamou Webo at the attack line, Jean II Makoun, Stephane Etoundi Mbia and Achille Ekotto Emana will be at the midfield, the defence mechanism will be manned by Nicolas Nkoulou, André Stephane Amougou, Geremi Soreille Fotso Njitap and Sebastien Bassong. At the goal post will be Idriss Carlos Kameni.

    Absent from the Lion’s den in Vienna will be Modeste Mbami Mbami and Benoit Assou-Ekotto, earlier invited by Le Guen. Mbami is in England to finalize his contract with his new club, Assou-Ekotto at Tottenham Hotspur has not made any official statement on his back-out from the Vienna camping.

    While Le Guen, also requested that the number of people around the Indomitable Lions should be reduced. The new management include Martin Etongue, in charge of administration, André Nguidjol, the finance officer, Linus Pascal Fouda, communication officer and Prof. Guillaume Atchou, head of the medical department.
