CAR : Clergymen suspend strike

    Central African Republic clergymen resumed work last Thursday after suspending all sacerdotal activities in protest of the resignation of Father Pomodimo, Bangui archbishop. They were also against the appointment of Dieudonne Nzapalaying as new apostolic administrator of Bangui.

    Ganging up behind their archbishop who was allegedly accused of adopting “a moral attitude which is not always in conformity with their commitments to follow Christ, in chastity, poverty and obedience,” indigenous priests and diocesans decided to stop organizing religious services and sacraments till further notice, upon the announcement of the bishop’s resignation by the apostolic nuncio to Bangui.

    Priest Lazarre, coordinator of the Central African Republic, broke the news suspending the three-day strike.

    AfricaNews reporter said people especially Christians were taken aback when the priests who claim authority comes from God decided to oppose their superiors.
