Meter taxis charge an average of US$2 within the city centre yet scanias charge an average of US&0.80.

These are mainly popular in Old Pumula ( a busy high density suburb in Bulawayo). Speaking to one scania operator, he said, 'Business is good especially on weekends and on public holidays because that is when people travel a lot'.

Old Pumula has one of the highest crime rates due to unemployment. The scania business has been recommended as a good self employment strategy that helps to curb crime in the area.
