Africa: AU calls for efficient civilian protection
- Posted on Wednesday 14 November 2007 - 12:11Tesfa-alem Tekle, AfricaNews reporter in Mekelle, EthiopiaAfrica union commissioner on social Affairs said African leaders in charge of cooperation with the international community as a whole must collectively put a maximum effort to assure civilian protection and rights across Africa.
The commissioner, Bennis Gamanos made the remark in Addis at a meeting host by AU-Japan embassy cooperation.
Commissioner Gawanos said “civilian security must be protected to bring a better and developed Africa”.
The Aim of the meeting is to bring an immediate action to assure civilian rights across the country to be held .
“State leaders and concerned officials on protecting civilian rights must scale up their efforts to protect citizens from threats” Gawanos added.
Japanese Ambassador to Ethiopia and representative to AU kenichi Komano on his said “civillan protection was picked as a point of discussion to make prior preparations so as to address the issue on the G-8 summit to be held in Tokyo in May.”
Ambassador komano has pledged that his country Japan will farther boost its help to assure security and bring economic and social development in Africa.
Similar meetings will also be held in other African countries a head of the G-8 summit so as a collective Idea will be forwarded on the G-8 summit.
Over 30 African representatives have participated in the meeting
